1. The world is your oyster

Would you like to work less hours, experience new cultures and expand your horizons? If so English teaching could be the career for you. Millions of people around the world want to learn English, the language of international trade and communication. By taking this degree program you can turn one of your most valuable assets—fluency in English—into an employable skill.

2. Learn from the experts

Our program includes over 70 hours of visually rich video instruction in four key areas related to English teaching: education, psychology, linguistics, and neuroscience. The videos are all presented by award-winning professors who currently teach at leading universities in the US and Canada.

3. Become one of the best

The first component of this degree course is the 40-hour intensive TESOL course taught by the Canadian Institute of English. This highly practical, method-based approach to teaching will give you an excellent grounding as you begin your journey to become a highly dynamic, effective and successful language teacher. For more information on the CIE class please visit cie.world

4. Learn at your own pace

This is a distance learning program that can be completed according to your time and schedule. If you need to work whilst you study you can work away at the program little by little, or if you are planning a move overseas and need to get qualified quickly you can do more and graduate sooner.

5. Study in style

This program is ideal for the 21st century learner. You can learn anywhere that has an internet connection. Watch highly enjoyable and visually rich video lectures, complete tests and prepare assignments, all from the comfort and convenience of your smart phone, tablet, and/or laptop. All platforms are supported.

6. Save money

Most universities charge tens of thousands of dollars for a university education, leaving graduates heavily in debt and often unable to find work. This degree course is both affordable and excellent value for money, meaning you won’t need to get into debt to get qualified. English teachers are in huge demand around the world meaning that it will be easy for you to find work as soon as you graduate. For a list of course fees and discounts available please visit our Admissions page.

7. Get credits for previous teaching experience

Students that enroll in our program can get credits for time and experience previously gained in the teaching field. A total of 2000 teaching hours are required for completion of our degree program. If you have worked as an English teacher for some time, but now need to get a degree in order to keep your job, this could be the solution you are looking for.

It used to be very easy for native English speakers with no qualifications, or only a TESOL/TEFL certificate, to find work as English teachers in non-English speaking countries. However, more and more countries now require you to have a degree in order to get a work permit, and this trend will likely continue to spread. If you are currently teaching English overseas, but need to get a degree to meet new regulations, this could be the program for you.

If you have already accumulated over 2000 hours you have already completed a large part of this degree program.

For more information please visit our FAQs page.

8. Walk the walk, talk the talk

A core part of this program includes learning another language of your choice to foundation level. If you have already learnt a second language you can have this translated into credits, making this degree program ideal for those who are bilingual.

9. Earn an accredited degree

The University of Science, Arts and Technology (USAT) is authorized by the Government of Montserrat to award degrees. For more information please visit our About Us page.

PLEASE NOTE: The fact that USAT has been accredited does not mean that a degree will be automatically accepted in every school or country around the world. In fact, no university will claim to offer such a degree. This degree has been useful for those wanting to teach English in some non-English speaking countries. However, if you wish to teach in the public school system of an English-speaking country such as the US, Canada, the UK or Australia, we do not recommend you take our degree program. Our experience has been that schools in English-speaking countries usually prefer, or even require, teachers with degrees from the same country where the school is located.

10. Make a change for the better

Are you looking for a career change? Why not consider teaching English? The USAT degree program could be your launchpad to a meaningful and successful career as an English teacher. English teachers often enjoy working less hours and having more vacation time, as well as being able to travel the world and experience new cultures.
